How to choose the right portal for your house or apartment?

What is the HS portal, the PSK portal and what is the FS portal? Today we are going to take a closer look.

About the products

Perhaps we all want to have large, well-lit spaces in our home or apartment with beautiful views of the outdoors. Patio and balcony doors try to give us that, but they have their size limitations. And then there are portals. Big glazing, big open spaces when the portal is open, lots of light in the room. But even these have their specifics which some may consider disadvantages. But let's take a nice step back and explain what a PSK portal is, a HS portal and what a FS portal is.

PSK portal - folding-sliding system

The PSK portal is the first of the systems used in the projects. What does tilt-slide mean? It is a system where the window can be put in two positions. The first is called a tilt or ventilation. It's like on conventional windows where you put the window in the vent position. With this opening, the window still fulfils the security function and cannot be opened from the outside. When you move the handle to the next position, the lower part of the window slides out into the interior and then you can move the window along the frame, along the mounted rails. As the rails are mounted on the sash frame, this system is not wheelchair accessible. When you open such a window, you have a beautiful open space to pass to the exterior and at the same time you do not "obstruct" the open sash in the space. This system is the most affordable.

PSK portal

Advantages of the PSK portal:

- Option to put the window in the ventilation position

- Lower price compared to other sliding systems

Disadvantages of the PSK portal:

- Not wheelchair accessible

- Harder to handle when opening and closing

- Can only be opened and closed from the interior

HS gantry - lift and slide system

HS portal is a sliding system which has the most advantages due to its construction and fittings. The main advantage is the barrier-free transition to the exterior and interior. Thanks to the lift and slide system which is built into the sliding sash and thanks to the low threshold which is only 1cm high, the transition is truly barrier-free. The whole system is based on a rail and wheel system, making it very easy to open even large glazing. It is not at all unusual to have a sliding section of 3x3 metres with fixed glazing that is virtually unlimited in length. Ventilation is also possible in the case of the HS portal, but since this portal cannot be folded, the ventilation system is solved by the so-called slot ventilation. The portal opens by approx. 1.5 cm and then closes again. This allows the whole sash to sit on the threshold again, but at the same time it fits into a special fitting which ensures that the portal remains locked and can be ventilated at the same time.

Another advantage of this system is the possibility of different profile designs. HS portals are generally thicker and heavier. Also due to how big they can be made. But there are SKY systems that have hidden frames and this makes the portals look much more minimalistic. And when you combine a SKY system with our VISION profile, you can achieve a frameless look with a beautiful slim sash profile but at the same time you lose nothing in strength and security.

Advantages of the HS portal:

- Barrier-free passage

- Easy handling of even large glazing

- Large glazings with different designs

- Can also be opened and locked from the outside

Disadvantages of HS portal:

- Higher purchase price

- For someone, higher weight may be a problem

FS portal - folding system

The FS gantry is a hinged gantry system that folds (or folds) sideways. The main advantage is that almost the entire glazed area of the window can be folded, so if we have, for example, a 6 meter FS portal, when opened we get a passage of almost 5 and a half meters. This is not possible with either PSK or HS portal. This portal is also wheelchair accessible and offers a nice smooth transition to the exterior. The disadvantage is that such a hinged portal is composed of many sashes and thus the view through such a window is disturbed by the many window frames. This system can also be manufactured in different designs.

FS portals in the conservatory

Advantages of the FS Portal:

- Possibility of the largest open space among portals

- Barrier-free passage

Disadvantages of the FS portal

- Poorer visibility due to the number of wings

- Harder to handle portal
