Hotel Ovruč
Hotel Ovruč was opened in 1969, mainly thanks to the International Ski Congress in Beirut, where the future host of the World Ski Championships was decided. Czechoslovakia was the candidate with the venue in the High Tatras. After strong support from delegates from 31 countries around the world, the decision was made to hold the event at Štrbské Pleso.
Hotel Ovruč did not stand out above other buildings in terms of architecture. At that time, the FIS Hotel, Panorama Hotel and Park in Nový Smokovec attracted attention. Hotel Ovruč was at that time designed as a garni hotel, where accommodation and breakfast were offered. It had to be built quickly and easily, as the time for the preparation of the championship was inexorably running out.
During the championships, journalists from all over the world stayed at the hotel and a press centre was set up. However, however well the championship went and Štrbské Pleso was talked about all over the world, the hotel remained only as an accommodation facility for employees from other hotels in Štrbské Pleso. It changed hands frequently until it fell into the hands of Adove Energy. The latter also wanted to sell the hotel and back in 2017 they gave an interview to Trend magazine where they said that the chances of them starting to renovate the hotel were zero.
Eventually, however, an investor was found and TAMI decided to build a new hotel on the site of the original one. In 2019, work began on the new Hotel Ovruč and in 2020 we joined the project.
We manufactured and supplied wood-aluminium windows and entrance doors to the hotel apartments. The windows are in DH92 profile and therefore 92 millimetres thick. They are suitable for the conditions that prevail in Štrbské Pleso. They have excellent thermal insulation properties and thanks to the aluminium hood they are completely maintenance-free. For the exterior, we have even produced sliding automatic doors, which are the main entrance to the hotel. It was a challenge but challenges are meant to be overcome.
Internally, we manufactured and installed fire doors for the entrance to the apartments and fire doors in the corridors. The doors are finished in knotty oak veneer, the top trim is ceiling-high. The suite doors are fitted with a card system, are reversible, have a concealed self-closer, a drop threshold, are 63mm thick and are in a two-tone finish. On the corridor side they are oak, so that they match the fire doors exactly, and on the room side they are in anthracite, which is also used in the interior of the rooms and has been matched with the furniture.
