In order to choose the right security door, it is necessary to know what we want to achieve with the door. Of course, security doors are installed to secure the property, and with this comes the obligation to install such doors if you want to insure the apartment against burglary. In this case, the insurance company requires a certificate for the security door. And this will only be issued to you on the basis of the supply of the security door and if the installer is accredited to reinstall such features.
Let's take a look at some other details that are important when it comes to doors.
Which safety class to choose?
European standards recognise six safety classes for doors. For the purpose of securing a dwelling, doors in security class 2 or 3 are the most suitable. Security class 1 provides only minimal protection and such doors can only be broken through with a screwdriver in a short time. In contrast, doors in security classes 4,5 and 6 are not used on a daily basis, but rather only in special cases. For the aforementioned burglary insurance, a minimum of security class 2 is required. All security doors from KUNAJ are automatically fire-resistant with a minimum of 30 minutes fire protection.
Which locking system to choose?
We install a hook safety lock in our security doors, whether they are class 2 or class 3. When the door is locked, the hooks slide out of the leaf and catch on the door frame, making the door very resistant to prying or breaking. The hooks hold the door locked in the frame.
What door surface to choose.
The doors themselves can have different finishes. Whether you choose a laminate finish or a veneer door depends on your preference and the overall environment where the door is located. The door panel and hardware are essential. For security class 2, the door infill is a material that is moulded from very small particles (a few millimetres max) of both wood and scrap metal, making it very difficult to get through the door with brute force. In the case of class 3, a steel plate is embedded in the door.
Which door frames are suitable for security doors?
Steel door frames are supplied as standard with security doors. Whether framed, semi-framed or framed, it is the anchoring into the wall that is important. For security class 2, we have a certified installation on so-called turboscrews and the subsequent filling of the space between the wall and the frame with fire-resistant foam. Of course the door frame can be mounted by concreting. However, this option is necessary for safety class 3.
Our company even has certified security doors in class 2, which have a wooden frame and atypical height. However, we only make this alternative in a fully veneered version.
Fittings and keys.
Ideal for security doors is security hardware. There is again a large portfolio of handles to choose from. Almost every handle manufacturer also offers safety handles. Here the difference is in material and design. Some handles are fitted with an overlay insert, which helps against the lock being drilled off. Locks are also made differently, according to the security class. The keys to the doors can then only be broken with the special card that comes with the keys. Our most used fittings are AXA Atlas 2 PLUS which is a shield security handle and in addition a EURO secure lock with security class 3.
