An apple tree is a tree of the genus of plants belonging to the rose family.

Archaeologists believe that the history of apples dates back to 10 000 years BC. Today, apple trees are widespread throughout the world, especially in temperate climates. Average world production is more than 80 million tonnes. Around half of the total is accounted for by a single country, namely China. Apple trees are deciduous fruit trees with a ball-shaped crown. Their fruit, apples, are also known professionally as small apples. They bloom in spring, when their crown turns into a stunning white and pink blossom-studded splendour.

Apple trees also have cultural significance. They often appear in both religious and artistic contexts. Representations of large red apples are known from antiquity and have been used as a backdrop for many scenes. For example, the famous trial of Parid, in which the apple plays a central role. This scene has captivated many of the world's painters from the Renaissance to the 20th century. The German painter Lucas Cranach is said to have painted it as many as 23 times.

Apple wood is beautiful and decorative. It is dense and tough with a dark brown heartwood. It takes on a high gloss when polished. A fine treatment with linseed oil can bring out the unusual colour of its wood. The wood is used to a lesser extent in the manufacture of furniture. It is used for tables and also for connecting parts, e.g. in staircases. It is also used in carving and for the creation of small decorative objects.

Apple trees are not missing in almost any Slovak garden, and frankly, their biggest advantage are tasty apples, which are irresistible to children and adults alike. As mentioned above, the biggest growers in the world are the Chinese. Just behind them are the Poles, the USA, Turkey and Italy. Under the right conditions, apple trees can live up to 100 years, but the harvest must wait. Sometimes it takes 5 or 6 years for an apple tree to bear tasty fruit. Apples are rich in fiber, vitamin B, and are a great antioxidant. They kick-start digestion and can even help with weight loss. Apples on the table or on the kitchen counter also serve a decorative function and scent the home with a subtle fruity fragrance. At room temperature, however, they ripen up to 6 times faster than if you store them in the fridge, which slows down the ripening process. Did you know that apples won't sink in water due to the fact that they contain up to 25% air? With today's blog, we hope we've convinced you that apple trees will have a place in your dream garden.
