They are therefore an essential element of our existence and they have many attractions. We have tried to select the least known ones to bring you something new.

5. The smallest tree on earth is the herbaceous willow. It grows in Arctic regions, and rarely grows more than a few inches above the ground.
6. More than 20,000 different species of trees grow on the earth.
7. The most massive and largest tree in the world is the mammoth redwood - the General Sherman tree with a height of 83.5 metres.
8. British oaks can live up to 500 years.
9. One tree can absorb up to 48 kg of carbon dioxide per year.
10. The oldest tree grows in Sweden. Its age is estimated at 9550 years.
11. An indigenous tribe in West Africa plants a tree at the birth of each child. The purpose of the tree is to show the person the path of life. For example, when it blossoms, the girl will get married. Members of the tribe believe that after death, a person's soul takes refuge in this tree.
12. In 1971, some tree seedlings were put on the moon as part of the Apollo 14 project, where, among other things, moon trees were grown.
13. If you have a live Christmas tree at home it contains 7 times more DNA than your body.
14. A tree called Hura Crepitans grows in South Africa. Its trunk is studded with thorns. However, the fruits are also interesting, as they are full of seeds. They explode loudly when ripe and can cause serious injury by shooting their seeds up to 100 metres away.
15. Scientists have come to the interesting discovery that trees don't forget. They react to their environment following what has already happened. Scientists are trying to prove that tree memory works at the molecular level.
16. Did you know that adult trees help themselves by pumping a sugar solution through their roots? This is how sick and weak individuals manage to get through tough times and recover.
17. There are more trees on earth than there are stars in the galaxy.
18. Ebony is naturally the darkest wood on earth. The whitest tree is called holly.
19. Trees receive 90% of their nutrition from the atmosphere, the remaining 10% from the soil.
20. Since the outbreak of the covida pandemic, toilet paper, which is made from wood fibre, has been considered the Achilles heel. Forest protection and toilet paper are therefore mutually exclusive.
21. The forest has one more rarity for us besides its cooling effect. It takes care of more rainfall.
When forests are cleared and replaced by, for example, meadows or agricultural land, rainfall can be reduced by up to 90%.
